5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent design, bone dry, plenty of room, what else?, June 2, 2010

All I can say is "Wow"!

Cheaper than most family tents, but actually keeps the rain out. I'm 30 minutes north of Seattle. Just unpacked and put up the tent this morning as soon as it arrived during an hour no rain break, then it started pooring. Eight hours of rain and it's still bone dry inside out in my backyard. I can't believe a 450mm shell/tent can do that.

More than enough room for our whole family, me, wife, 13yr and 1yr old daughters. Two big foam beds and a play pen to boot. I searched reviews all over the net trying to find a decent family tent and hoped the reviews I read about his one were all true, and I am happy to say they are. Coleman F-N rox.

The rain fly that covers the outside of the door is part of the whole rain fly (all one piece), there is actually room for three chairs to stay dry under it (picture misleads that it is smaller). I was just out there smoking a cig thinking, America still has a few great companies left that mean... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Roomy, comfortable tent!, November 21, 2009

Bought this tent for a two-week camping trip to Canada for two adults and two large dogs. We put a queen-size air mattress in one end of the tent and used the other side for luggage, dressing, storing chairs, etc. Dogs slept in the middle. Very comfortable, very good ventilation. Had plenty of room and privacy. Followed the directions and it was easy to set up. Door is fantastic - so much better than regular zip doors. It rained four days of our trip -- big downpours and very windy. As long as objects did not push up against the inside walls of the tent, then things stayed dry. This was the best purchase we made all summer and I can't wait to take it out next year!

This tent is large - but not too large... I have set it up in my yard to check it out and try it out. You'll need a campsite big enough to hold it - like it may not fit on an old school standard size 'tent pad', but it's not obnoxiously enormous at all... I wanted something new after my recent camping trip in my old walmart tent ended up with us in puddles. I saw 3 or 4 people in the campground with this tent and really liked it. I wish it had a room divider, but that's the only thing it's lacking. It's VERY easy to put up. I did it all by myself in about 15 minutes, the first time. I took it down by myself in about 5 minutes - and my first attempt at rolling it up, it fit perfectly back in the bag. I love the multiple power ports. Don't really understand the rear cooler access - I probably wont use it for that purpose, but it's nice to have some access ports for whatever reason you might wanna use it for! I love that it has windows even with the rainfly - that's a rare feature and I... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Dry as a bone tent camping!, July 25, 2009

This review is from: Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 6 Tent (Sports)
I've camped for many years, first as a Girl Scout and then as an adult. My husband had never camped, let alone in a tent. I took him out in this tent to a National Forest campground in the Shenendoah mountains, and it rained steady for a week. This tent saved the vacation. The middle room served as our dining and rec center, providing ample space for our small camp table where we ate and played cards. The screened porch was a perfect vestibule, and on sunny days it's a great place to relax, nap, read and escape from the bugs. The sleeping room is perfect for two adults and a queen-sized air bed. The middle room will comfortably sleep an entire family, or serve as the "living room", gear room, work room, etc. It has a high ceiling with a loop for hanging a light. The over-cover and Coleman construction make this the driest tent I've ever experienced. After a week of steady rain, not one seep, weep or drip.

This review is from: Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 6 Tent (Sports)
I bought this tent to use at a week-long star-party, so "practical" and "carry-in" weren't objectives. What WERE objectives were that it had to be big enough for all my gear, had to be relatively reliable and well equipped, and it had to be big enough that I could move around in it with my 6'2" figure without developing a hunch.

Naturally when buying camping gear I ran to Coleman. It's clear that the brand has moved far away from the mostly American-made products to overseas (China) manufacturing, so that was a little disappointing. However it probably worked in my favor since I could get more product for less $$.

Okay, so about the tent...

First off, this is NOT a light tent. If you're actually going to hike this someplace, think again. The specs say it weighs 36 pounds, and you'd better believe it. It also comes in the typical Coleman tent bag (squarish green zipper bag) and the bag is about 4-feet long. Definitely something to consider if you're... Read more

This tent is wonderful, extremely spacious and has great new advancements in tent technology. I loved how open the tent felt. Bravo to Coleman for inventing the hinged tent door...it makes the tent really feel like a miniature cabin with a REAL door. After we received the tent I asked the hubby if we should try to set it up indoors prior to our next camping trip. He responded with a negative, that we could just figure it out there since the instructions are sewn into the tent duffel bag.

After arriving to our camp site we struggled to get the tent up. Tempers flared and we had to call in one back-up person to help us. The instructions sewn into the bag are not very easy to read, and the diagrams are pretty much useless. We had to "figure it out" as my husband had said. Something to know when you're going to set this tent up for the first time is that it really does matter which of the thicker, steel poles go where. Some are just slightly shorter than others... 5.0 out of 5 stars Good tent., June 13, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I bought this for our annual June cub scout camp out in the park (i.e. not exactly extreme camping). The tent was easy for my 8 year old son and I to set up together and very roomy for the two of us (I can see how it could easily fit 4 if needed, though it was a nice size for 2 with plenty of room for stuff). It rained most of the night with thunder and lightning, but we made it through completely dry. The rain cover worked great and still provided plenty of ventilation. There are not a lot of rope tie-downs for kids (and adults) to trip over which was nice (just 2 for the rain cover and none for the actual tent) and it was still entirely stable through our stormy night. This tent was reasonably priced and worked well for our purposes. I bought this rather than last year's model just because it was a few dollars less but my impressions of this tent seem in line with the very positive reviews for last year's model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Camping in Irene, September 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
Don't ask me why, but we went camping and canoeing during Hurricane Irene in the Shenandoah River for the entire weekend. This tent was easy to set up (in the dark) and was sufficient in keeping the bugs out. Saturday night, there was heavy rain and winds 45-60ish mph; pretty scary when you add some thunder and sounds of falling branches. This tent was secure and kept my wife and I dry when our friends tents sprung leaks and suffered wet sleepingbag-itis. I think fitting 4 people in the tent is a bit too cozy and it serves 2 the best if you like some room for your guns and stuff. I recommend also the mallet and metal dowels with broom/dustpan that amazon offers in the buy together option. I think those heavy duty dowels and my heavy duty self helped my tent stay secured. bottom line: a tent well worth pitchin'

We purchased this tent for our adult children to sleep in during a family reunion. Everything was fine: Assembly was relatively simple and size was as expected. However, when we assembled the tent 3 weeks later, we found a tear at the seam connecting the floor material with the wall material. Thankfully, duct tape cures everything, but, really? After ONE USE? Disappointing...

So here are my scores for this tent: (1-5 stars)
Appearance: 4 stars because it was a little cheap looking
Assembly: 5 stars because it was assembled within 5 minutes by two adults
Size: 3 stars because despite the fact that Coleman calls this a 4 person tent, 4 adults could not sleep in this tent. Held one queen size air mattress with an area of about 3'x5' for your stuff.
Durability: 1 star because the seam should not be split after two nights of use.
